Internet & Connectivity Solutions
Internet Connectivity
A fast, reliable internet connection is essential for almost every business — whether you’re using Microsoft 365, cloud-based backups, or a hosted phone system. But with terms like FTTP, FTTC, SoGEA and more, it’s not always clear which option is right for you.
That’s where we come in. We’ll take the time to understand how your business works, what you rely on day to day, and recommend a solution that fits — without the jargon. We’ll ask the right questions before making any suggestions, so you get the right connection without the guesswork.

What Does Your Business Really Need?
There’s no one-size-fits-all internet solution — it depends on how your business works and what you rely on day to day. For example:
-
Do you need guaranteed performance through a service level agreement?
-
Are you running cloud-based systems like Microsoft 365, Dropbox or hosted phone services?
-
How many users do you need to keep connected?
-
How much of your business would grind to a halt without the internet?
These are just some of the questions we’ll ask before recommending the right solution. Fast, reliable internet isn’t a luxury — it’s essential. Poor-quality connections lead to dropped calls, slow downloads, and real frustration.
If you don’t fancy wading through acronyms like FTTP, FTTC or SoGEA, don’t worry — that’s our job. Give us a call or drop us a message, and we’ll take the time to understand your setup. Then we’ll recommend the right service for your business — no jargon required.
What’s the Difference Between FTTP, FTTC, FTTPz and SoGEA?
If those acronyms mean nothing to you — don’t worry, you’re not alone. The main thing to know is that they’re all types of internet connections, each offering different speeds, availability and setup methods. Here’s a quick, jargon-free look at one of the most popular options:
SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access)
SoGEA lets you get broadband without needing a traditional phone line. That makes it quicker to install, often more affordable, and perfect for businesses that no longer rely on landline phones.
Why choose SoGEA?
-
Cost-effective – no need for a phone line rental
-
Quick to install – fewer parts, fewer delays
-
Reliable – less affected by weather or interference
It’s already available to most UK premises and is growing fast. If you’re not sure which type of connection is right for your business, we’ll help you make the right call — no jargon, no pressure.
The Acronym Buster
Let's break down these acronyms to give you a clearer picture of what they mean:
Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) is the entry-level fibre product for ‘business broadband’ but to be able to access it the exchange, and your cabinet (the green box), both need to have been upgraded.
FTTC is a great product for a business that just needs faster speeds, with download speeds of 80mbps and upload speeds of 20mbps achievable.
Where FTTP cannot be installed by 2025, FTTC will generally be replaced by SOGEA.
Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) is a great solution for businesses who need fast internet speeds and a service level agreement, but their budget cannot stretch to a leased line.
The service is delivered using Fibre to the Premises removing the issues experienced with copper cabling as a Leased Line would.
With speeds up to 300Mbps download it is a recommended solution for small and medium businesses.
At a low cost it is the perfect failover for Leased Line installations.
A perfect partner with Cloud Telephony.
Where FTTP cannot be installed by 2025, FTTC will generally be replaced by SOGEA.
FTTPz is an enhanced type of fibre optic broadband which provides even faster speeds and greater reliability than traditional FTTP.
FTTPz has revolutionised the way we use broadband today offering speeds up to 1000Gbps/150Gbps.
Here are some of the potential benefits of FTTPz:
- Faster speeds: FTTPz is expected to offer speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is significantly faster than traditional FTTP. This would allow users to download large files in seconds and stream high-definition video without buffering.
- Greater reliability: FTTPz is expected to be more reliable than traditional FTTP, thanks to its smaller and more flexible cables and its more efficient optical networking technology. This would mean that users would be less likely to experience outages or slowdowns.
- Wider availability: FTTPz is expected to be more widely available than traditional FTTP, thanks to its smaller and more flexible cables. This would mean that more people would have access to high-speed broadband.
Overall, FTTPz has the potential to revolutionise the way we use broadband. It offers the promise of faster speeds, greater reliability, and wider availability. However, it is important to be aware that FTTPz is still in the early stages of development.
SoGEA stands for Single order Generic Ethernet Access and is the product name that Openreach use when selling this service to Customers.
The starting product from Openreach for SoGEA will be 40 Download and 10 Upload.
It is similar to FTTC but, when a customer moves to this service, they agree use the Internet for their voice calls (VoIP). The service uses the copper line from the customer’s premises to the green street cabinet and then fibre cable to the telephone exchange. Unlike with FTTC, the copper line from the green street cabinet to the telephone exchange is no longer used with SoGEA. This means that to make voice calls you will need to connect to your router in the premises either through WiFi or through a voice port in the back of the router.
